Course Overview


This introductory course will review statistics and trends on aging, literature supporting aging in place as well as OT's role with respect to home modifications. Typical home modifications that are recommended and why will be reviewed as well as funding and programmatic landscape.

The online class is intended for medical professionals (e.g. OT/OTA, PT/PTA, Physicians, etc.) directly related to the rehabilitation of a patient or client. To participate in this CEU and receive credit, the participant must be a licensed, treating clinician. Completion of this course will reward the participant with .1 CEU or 1 contact hour, following completion of the presentation and a ≥ 80% score on the quiz. You will have 90 days to complete this course.

Monique Chabot, OTD, OTR/L, SCEM, CLIPP, CAPS is an associate professor of occupational therapy at Widener University in Chester, PA, and a fourth year PhD Candidate in Architecture and Design Research at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia where she is exploring spatial arrangements and smart technology to support functional cognition in the kitchen for aging in place. In addition to her work on faculty, she has worked her entire career with older adults in the community and still works clinically with three local nonprofit housing organizations in various capacities. She specializes in aging in place, home modifications, smart technology, and assistive technology design with 3D printing and light robotics.
