Course Overview
Mental health concerns have gained more attention in recent years, partly due to the staff shortages and burnout as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, some demographics have experienced a higher risk of mental health concerns even apart from this most recent crisis. One particular group is veterans, who are at risk of depression, insomnia, substance use disorders, and more. Perhaps the most concerning trend is the amount of veterans living with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Specifically, 23% of veterans within the Veterans Administration (VA) and 7% of veterans who do not use the VA have PTSD. The latter of these numbers is 1% higher than the lifetime prevalence in the general population, which is 6%.
In order for therapists to effectively treat veterans, they must not only have a working knowledge of PTSD, but they must also understand how this condition impacts the treatment they provide. This course will offer therapists a look at diagnostic information related to PTSD, considerations that impact evaluation and treatment, and other resources for veterans living with this condition.
The online class is intended for medical professionals (e.g. OT/OTA, PT/PTA, Physicians, etc.) directly related to the rehabilitation of a patient or client. To participate in this CEU and receive credit, the participant must be a licensed, treating clinician. Completion of this course will reward the participant with .1 CEUs or 1 contact hours, following completion of the presentation and a ≥ 80% score on the quiz. You will have 90 days to complete this course.
