Course Overview

Knowledge of the sensory system and its function can help us identify sensory disorders. This applies to sleep, activities of daily living (ADL), social skills and learning capabilities.

This pediatric continuing education class will review the primary and secondary senses and their functions followed by symptoms of a non-functioning sensory system, causes and connections. Concepts such as under- and overstimulation and their consequences, as well as the importance of sleep in relation to the well-functioning sensory system are also reviewed.

Existing research results are presented, also the differences between the ball product technology and weighted products is elaborated. It is not just a matter of adding weight! The course contains practical examples and cases where sensory stimulation aids have helped people to calm down during day and night, increased concentration, improved well-being and quality of life.
